Working for Chesapeake

 It's very hard to put in words exactly any one thing that I have done individually since becoming a member of City Council, because it takes a council majority to accomplish any one thing. City Council must work together as a team to reflect the diversity of opinions that best-reflect the needs and priorities of all Chesapeake residents and business owners. 

 

• After being elected in 2023, one of the first accomplishments made with a council majority was to reduce the real estate tax rate from $1.05 to $1.01. This action shows our commitment of fiscal responsibility. I understand that people work hard for the money they earn and one of my obligations is to assure Chesapeake can provide the highest level of service for the least amount of taxpayer dollars. A lower tax rate helps homeowners and business owners alike.

 

• As a business owner, I understand the importance of assisting with small business development, giving them the tools needed to be successful regardless of economic climate. Small business is the backbone of every municipality, providing jobs, valuable services and growth opportunities for all.

 

• Since being elected, I am also very proud to have supported all our public safety initiatives, making Chesapeake 18th in safest cities in the country. Public safety must remain a top priority for this and future City Councils, to be the very best place to raise a family, start a business, or invest for future endeavors. I believe the first responsibility of any government is to protect the lives and property of citizens and this is why public safety will always be my highest priority. 

 

• I serve as council's appointee to the Chesapeake Land Bank Authority. This position is one I take very seriously, and enjoy. The Land Bank Authority has become a great tool for revitalization, and redevelopment in strategic areas throughout the city. The investment and actions taken by the authority, has ignited investment from the private sector throughout our city.

 

• Community engagement is key to effective leadership. Whether through attending civic leagues, town hall meetings, or making myself available to the public for comments, I am able to mitigate and assist citizens through various aspects of concern. This gives citizens a voice in their concerns throughout our city.
